Shades of Fall

Fall is at its peak right now, all the leaves are turning colors and falling into piles. While I love fall colors, every year I tend to gravitate a bit more towards one in particular and as you can probably tell, rust is my fave fall color this year.
I also love an oversized fit and according to “fashion rules” that is not flattering for a plus size figure as it makes one appear bigger. But who cares? These days, I am all about being comfortable and fashionable at the same time so I care not if I’m looking “bigger”. So these days, my closet is full of oversized sweaters and jackets that are two sizes bigger than my true size.
I love pairing my oversized sweaters with skirts and booties for fall, what a way to keep it simple and chic. This open duster is probably the only medium-sized clothing that I own, but I loved the color and the sleeves and thankfully, it is cut a little big so it works. Finally, my skirt is thrifted and I really liked the paisley print and of course, the color.

NOT YOUR GRANDMA’S RUANA

Ruana (not available online, but check out all their other ruanas here) ◇ Jeans (here) ◇ Booties (sold out but love this here) ◇ Bag (YSL College)

*sigh* Ruanas…what more can I say about them? I have a love-hate relationship with them. You see, I love the concept of them…a fashionable blanket that you can take out of the house. Come on, that’s a genius idea but for the longest time for me they all just looked shapeless and ugly quite honestly. And reminded me of my grandma for some odd reason, until recently that is. I started to see some high-end brands (most commonly Fendi) with these ruanas that really caught my eye. And honestly, I think it might be their beautiful use of their logo that makes it such a stand out piece.
But since I might choose to spend my hard-earned money on high fashion bags but not clothing, I couldn’t bring myself to cough up $1500 on a ruana, no matter how gorgeous…at least not yet, but never say never you know?
So, I forgot all about my love for that ruana until I came across this one on a casual shopping trip to the mall.
Now, first of all, this particular design came with a belt attached. Since I primarily only wear it wrapped around my body like so, I cut off the belt the minute I bought it. Why do I love this ruana? Number one, it is actually cut to wrap around a plus size figure, not like those one size fits all jokes that look like you’re wearing your little sister’s handouts. Second, it is structured for a ruana, as they’re typically made to drape. And this one does drape, just in a structured manner which I love. Last, the pattern and colors. I love how it is designed with basic colors like black, grey, tan and brown. I wear this ruana everywhere…the movies, to lunch dates, you name it. It is just so perfect for this weather, and it is so very warm and cozy. It is not available online but if you can take a trip to your local store you might get lucky, that’s where I got mine. And I do recommend cutting off the attached belt, that’s my preference.

Fall Stripes

Did you guys feel the drastic change in weather? It was summer hot one day and fall cold the next, that took me by surprise I must admit. But with fall weather comes the chance to wear booties and I love me some booties.
These ones are one of my favorite, they’re sexy but comfy and that combo just melts my heel lovers’ heart. I styled it with this striped dress i picked up on my recent fall haul and I just love this dress.
I added this belt to accentuate my waist and to soften the look a little bit and I love how it came out.

Modern Vintage: Just in Time for Fall

Sweet relief! Fall is here! I was definitely one of those checking google for deets on the first day of Fall during the Summer and now that it’s here, let the Fall fashion begin!
Bold prints are always in style for me, but this scarf print is definitely in this season and oh so gorgeous. I paired it with this beautiful mustard lace top that just screams Fall.

Oversized Luxury: Faux Fur Mongolian Coat & Tassel Earrings

Hi guys!
This coat was not an impromptu purchase for me, not by any chance. I stalked it, overthought it, changed my mind about it, determined that I didn’t need it, but it stayed on my mind for weeks and I lived with the terror that it would get sold out in my size before I made up my mind! All of this nonsense over a piece of clothing? That’s how I knew, that me and this coat were meant to be together.
I have worn this coat many many times but never got around to shooting any pictures with it this Winter but it was one of my to do items before Spring so while I hate the current cold weather and crazy wind, I am glad that I still get a chance to wear my favorite coat before packing it away for the coming season.
I typically keep it really simple anytime I wear this coat, I mean just look at it, it is a statement all on it’s own and it sure does not need any help to stand out.
I actually love wearing it with sneakers for a chic, casual look and it never fails to pull in the compliments.
As with majority of my coats, I ordered it in a size bigger just because I absolutely love an oversized coat! It’s a side effect of all the Korean dramas that I enjoy, oversized coats are a way of life for them and it looks fabulous.
By the way, can we talk about these tassel earrings? Uh…I love them! I picked them up from my local Nordstrom Rack and they only had this pair left so I am currently stalking the internet for a variety of colors, because I have a feeling they will come in handy this Summer.

Transitioning

The transition into Fall is one of my favorite times of the year in terms of fashion. I love layering, light weight jackets, booties and boots, sweater dresses, scarfs and the list goes on. One of my favorite pairings is a midi dress over boots. Since it’s still a bit too hot to pull out my boots yet, it definitely was not too hot for this lace up boots on this day.
Looking at NYFW pictures this past month, I noticed a lot of free flowing, unstructured styles and thank goodness that fashion is moving away from the body conscious phase that we have been in the past years. I love dresses like this because of their multi-fuctional capacity. I wear this dress during the very hot summer days with some open toe sandals, during the fall with boots like this or with a turtle neck underneath during the winter with a thigh high boot and midi coat. Like I said, multifunctional.

CABLE SWEATER + LEATHER MINI

My favorite part of fall has to be the knitwear. I love sweaters (or jumpers), cardigans, lightweight jackets, and the works and since Fall has decided to come early in my side of the globe, I am already reaching to the back of my closet to pick out my sweaters.
Another part of knitwear that I love so much is its ability to stretch. This is very important for me because I love specialty sweaters, no plain ones for me (well, with the exception of this one I’m wearing lol). But since most plus size designs tend to border on the plain side, the stretch serves me well and I can actually pull off straight sizes in most sweaters. Believe me when I say that I definitely take advantage of this fact.
Sweaters are very versatile because they can be paired with pretty much anything and you can achieve whatever look/style you want with them. For a corporate look, wear a button down shirt underneath and pair with some pants, for a casual look pair with a boyfriend jean and some sneakers. I tend to choose the dressy route with my sweaters and i love pairing them with skirts; pencil, mini, skater, you name it. Since faux leather isn’t going anywhere soon, I paired this cable sweater with a simple leather miniskirt.

I’m wearing
Cable knit sweater (similar here and here, grab this for a steal here)
Faux leather miniskirt (sold out, similar herehere and here)
Steve Madden heels (here, similar here)
