The Power Suit.

About a year ago, I went to this convention that you may have heard about but if you haven’t it’s called The Curvy Con. It was fun time plus a lot of my favorite retailers had pop up shops so we could shop and have fun. Sounds great right? Well, it’s happening this year again and although I won’t be able to make it, I am looking forward to seeing all the Instagram and blog posts. So last year, Rebdolls was one of the retailers there and we all got gift cards.

So fast forward almost one year later, I realize that I never quite used my Rebdolls gift card and I decided to try it out and to my surprise, it worked! I decided to get this jumpsuit because right now, I find myself very frustrated at the offerings of most our “so called” fashionable plus size retailers. I literally went on one page the other day and only saw white, black and brown clothing, and in the Spring nonetheless! So Rebdolls is a breath of fresh air, because their offerings are bold where others fear to take the risk. And for that, they have my support.

Lace & Sequins

So, it’s no secret that I have a few bespoke pieces in my closet. They are a luxury and pleasure that I do not deny myself, and I truely believe that everyone (male or female) should have a few bespoke pieces in their closets as well.
This sequin skirt which is also seen here is one of my favorite pieces to date. It looks ridiculously expensive and fits my body like a glove, can’t beat that. Whenever I wear this skirt, I usually tone it down quite a bit by pairing it with casual pieces and letting the skirt be the focus of the look. But this time, I decided to give it some competition with this gorgeous lilac crop top and I think they worked well together.

Daisies.

Hello world!
I confess, I am an impulse buyer. I see it, I want it, I can afford it, I get it. It’s a horrid habit and one that I am working on curbing but it’s a habit nonetheless. Now contrary to the norm, this dress was not an impulse buy for me. As much as I loved it and was tempted to buy it, I resisted…until it went on sale for $36. The high neckline is one of my favorite styles just because I worked darn hard for these shoulder blades and heck yeah I flaunt them.

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes…Sizes 12 & Up

Hi guys!
For the longest time, I was a solid size 13 for shoes. To say that it is hard to find trendy heels in that size is the biggest fashion understatement ever. It is near to impossible to accomplish that feat, even if you are willing to shove out big bucks for it.
For example, I looove a beautiful pair of Louboutin but as willing as I am to pay the big bucks for it, they simply do not make them in my size. So I had to learn how to compromise my expectations and settle for shoes that were never truly good enough for me. Honestly, one of my incentives to lose weight was also the hope that I would lose weight in my feet and end up with a smaller shoe size, which I did…a size 12! Turns out, the size 12’s of the world do not have it any better! Yes, they have a larger selection than a size 13 but only by a small margin. So tell me, is size 11 the holy grail?
Anyways, I am currently looking at updating my shoe closet and thought I would share some gorgeous shoes that I found in sizes 12 & up.

Asymmetrical with a twist

Hi guys!
First of all, happy belated mother’s day to all the mothers, soon to be mothers and hopeful to be mothers out there. Hope your day was filled with love, laughter and celebration, and if it wasn’t I pray that one day it will be!
So, if you remember about two weeks ago Monif C held a pop up shop in DC and I was able to catch it. I saw this skirt on a hanger and knew I was going to get it, especially for the price. I just wasn’t sure about what color. The conservative in me was reaching for the black (as always), but the adventuress in me wanted the olive and since I am sailing away from the all black everything ship, I went with olive. Still in the dark family but a beautiful color nonetheless. Check out the other item I picked up at the pop up shop here
When I saw this gorgeous yellow top, I was a bit worried that the lace up trend will soon be a thing of the past but surprisingly it is still going strong. I loved this combination of yellow and olive, but I can’t wait to see what I’ll style this skirt with next.

Modern Classic

Hello world! It’s been cray cray bipolar weather over this side of the world. I’m talking twenty four hour raining and clouds like there’s a hurricane coming. But prior to all this rain, we got a few days of sunshine and i was able to wear one of my favorite uniforms of this season…yeah, you guessed it right. Another off the shoulder look.
This top is actually a crop top but it has a longer length than most crops so I could easily tuck it in. Plus I love maxi pencil skirts and I’m wondering why this is the only one I own. Maybe because they get sold out quite easily? I want a few…I’m talking Kim Kardashian type maxi skirts. These hips ain’t nothing like hers but I think I got enough junk in the trunk to pull them off lol.
And my choker is actually a piece of elastic I had laying in the house. I was tired of paying money for those flimsy ones and then losing them so I just tied an elastic band in the back and viola.

What I’m Wearing
Crop top (here, also comes in ivory) ~ Skirt (Yours Clothing UK, similar here, I love this here) ~ Belt (old) ~ Shoes (Smash Shoes, up to size 13) ~ Bag (here

GINGHAM PRINT: LEOTA FULL FIGURE

Finding the perfect dress to frame our plus size bodies is not an easy task quite frankly. A lot of times we end up sacrificing style for comfort and vice versa. Leota is a dress company that designs and manufactures all their dresses in NYC. All of their prints are hand painted by their designers. According to their statement, they are a fashion company run by feminists and it shows in how comfortable their dresses are. They carry straight sizes and maternity but are branching out into the plus size world with some classic designs.
I chose this Perfect Wrap Cap Sleeve dress in gingham raspberry because it’s bright and fun. Goes perfectly with my dare to purchase more colors as opposed to black and white. What I loved most about this dress is that it did not require anything else to make it a great outfit. I did not feel the need to dress it up, because it is already dressed up.
If I were in corporate America, I could have dominated a couple of board meetings in this dress for sure. But since I am not, it served me just as well for a late lunch with friends.
